Bathroom in Family Suite of Norwegian Getaway’s The Haven
On the 14th ofJanuary 2014, to fanfare and great excitement, Norwegian Cruise Line’s new ship, Norwegian Getaway, arrived at Southampton’s City Docks.
On first impression. I wouldn’t say that Norwegian Getaway is the most beautiful ship I have ever seen. The shape is practical and pragmatic, she isn’t as sleek as older vessels; but the painting of a beach scene and mermaids by David “LEBO” Le Batard on the hull does grab your attention. But the real surprise is when you are on board.
The number of bars, restaurants, venues and general amenities is extensive and very attractive visually. The new bars, The Tropicana Room, Sugar Cane Mojito Bar and Sunset Bar, give a Latin, Caribbean flavour to the ship. The Waterfront, which is the outside deck area of 678 Ocean Place, has outdoor dining for guests when the weather permits. And there is a staggering 28 dining options. There are new shows as well. The Illusionarium is a themed entertainment which celebrates magic and includes dinner with the show. Legally Blonde is the new Broadway offering in the Getaway Theatre. I wasn’t as impressed with the Grammy Experience possibly because they need to add more displays to give it that ‘Hard Rock Cafe’ type of effect. Perhaps it is a work in progress.
The Aqua Park on Deck 16 with high ropes and the plank will be very popular with families and children.
My Deck 10 stateroom on Norwegian Getaway
I was quite impressed with my Deck 10 stateroom. It was spacious and boasted shiny faux wood trim and cabinets. Actually, quite attractive. The bathroom was spacious and the sink extended across the entire length of one wall. I have to admit that I am a fan of the wavy cabins on Norwegian Epic. I might be in the minority but that ship’s staterooms make a, well, statement!
But what I found exceptionally attractive was the upmarket Family Suite in ‘The Haven by Norwegian’ part of the ship. Beautiful. And the owner’s suite was just stunning. Something to save up the pennies for!
Even for those who are not fans of the larger cruise vessels, there is something about boarding a brand new ship that creates great anticipation. I think the ‘buzz’ around Norwegian Getaway will keep on generating excitement for some time to come.
